About

Ikumi Bowles is a Melbourne based artist from Nakatsu (Kyushu), Japan.

She started painting in 1994 and has exhibited in various art shows and exhibitions in Melbourne. Ikumi's aim is to express the harmony and reconciliation between the opposing elements of East and West, light and dark, pure and impure, and so on and so forth. This is because she believes that opposing elements coming together is the key to bring about peace and healing.

Having worked primarily with watercolour, gouache, and traditional illustration, in recent years Ikumi has branched out into collage and mixed media - which can be seen in her most recent series 'Papier'. Currently, Ikumi is working hard in her studio on a few different concepts for a children's book, which will feature an original story with accompanying illustrations.
